Code of Conduct

Swing Dance Nashville is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof). Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of workshops or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated at any event venue, including dances, workshops, competitions, Twitter, Facebook, and other online media.

We hope that our dances, classes, and events will provide a chance for you to engage in social situations and learn new skills, pushing you outside of your artistic comfort zone. No other behaviors, speech, or actions that make our patrons feel uncomfortable, threatened, or harassed will be tolerated. Please do not offer unsolicited advice to other students in class out of respect for their learning environment.

We reserve the right to take any action we deem necessary to deal with harassment. This includes verbal warnings, asking people to leave the event immediately without refund, banning individual(s) from all Swing Dance Nashville events, and contacting law enforcement officials.

Alcohol Policy

Swing Dance Nashville events occasionally involve the presence of alcohol. Please drink responsibly, which means committing to never drive a car under the influence and reflecting seriously upon your personal limits and how you may act while under the influence. Inebriation is not an excuse for harassing behavior. Underage drinking or providing alcohol to those under 21 years will absolutely not be tolerated and may result in being banned from SDN events.

Reporting Harassment

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the Swing Dance Nashville board or our event staff immediately. If you notice any harassment occurring on or around the premises of our events please also bring this to our attention. You can contact us by:

  • Emailing us at nsdfinfo@gmail.com

Swing Dance Nashville is happy to help participants contact venue staff or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe and all complaints will be kept in strictest confidence. Covid Policy

We believe in a basic concept: if you are comfortable dancing and/or listening to swing music, then please come! We would love to have you! If you are not comfortable, then now is not the right time FOR YOU and that is your choice. We will welcome you with open arms when you are comfortable coming back.

Class Policies

The refund and retake policies below apply only to monthly Swing Dance Nashville class sessions, and do not apply to workshop events.

Our refund policy

Refunds on class registrations may be issued at the teacher coordinator’s discretion before the start of the first class. Refunds for online payments will only be considered up to 30 days after payment is received. Contact us at nsdfinfo@gmail.com for clarification or questions.

Our retake policy

In the interest of providing the best dance education possible to its students, Swing Dance Nashville’s policy is to allow students to retake any of the Lindy 1-4 series classes for $10 off the normal price at any time.

To be eligible for any discount, students must have taken and completed a full session in the specified class, in whichever role they plan to retake that class. Leaders planning to retake the class as followers (and vice versa) are expected to register and pay for the class normally.

Should a student decide to retake an intro level class, he or she should follow the link for online registration, complete the online form, and “submit” as is the normal procedure. The student should then send an email to nsdfinfo@gmail.com stating that the class is a retake. Swing Dance Nashville will then issue a refund of $10 to the student by the end of the class series.
